  • Academica Sinica's Scripta Sinica - Chinese Language web site.
  • Aozora - Aozora (Blue Skies) is the Japanese version of the Gutenberg Project. Texts are beyond their copyright dates, or contain notes that the author is still holding the copyright. Texts are available in a variety of formates (.txt, html, or as an e-book format. There is no English at this website.
  • Center for Chinese Studies - Chinese language web site from Taiwan.
  • Chinese Cultural Studies: Texts - Provides access to translations of original Confucian, Legalist, Daoist and Buddhist texts. Links are also available to other texts on Chinese religion, ethnic groups, literature, and dynastic history.
  • Chinese Philosophical E-text Archive - The archive is based at Wesleyan University with the support of the Mansfield Freeman Center for East Asian Studies, and the New England Council of the Association of Asian Studes.
  • Historical Institute of the University of Tokyo - This link offers a wide variety of databases both for images and texts for specialists in Japanese history and classical literature.
  • JACAR (Japan Center for Asian Historical Records) - Digital archive of the Japanese government, specifically relating to foreign affairs. The database is available in English, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. Asian history specialists working in the period of 1868 to 1945 will find this resource to be invaluable, although it might be overwhelming for undergraduate students.
  • Japanese Text Initiative - This site is a collaborative effort on the part of the University of Virginia Library Electronic Text Center and the University of Pittsburgh East Asian Library to make electronic versions of classical Japanese literature easily accessible on the World Wide Web.

  • Jintian--Chinese literary Magazine - Link to the full-text of Jintian, a Chinese language literary magazine.
  • Katei Bunko - A collection of about 1200 texts published during the Edo period (1600-1868) consisting mostly of novels and theatrical writings. It is a wonderful source for students and scholars of Edo literature.
  • Kindai Digital Library - This is a digital library provided by the National Diet Library of Japan. It includes as many Meiji period (1868-1912) texts as could be digitized and cleared for copyright purposes. It currently includes nearly 60,000 volumes. Because of the fragile nature of these materials, they are rarely available through Interlibrary Loan, so this site is virtually the only way to access them.

  • National Women's Education Center (WNEC) WNEC offers a fine collection of statistics and related databases dealing with women and gender issues in Japan.
  • Portal Site of Statistical Data in Japan provides links to statistics pages for all branches of the Japanese government.
  • Surveys; Government of Japan A wide variety of governmental statistics of Japan are available at this site including polling information, as well as economic and political data. Site may be searched in Japanese or in English.
