International Statistics

United Nations Statistical Database
The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) is committed to the advancement of the global statistical system. The UNSD compiles and disseminates global statistical information, develops standards and norms for statistical activities, and supports countries? efforts to strengthen their national statistical systems. They facilitate the coordination of international statistical activities and support the functioning of the United Nations Statistical Commission as the apex entity of the global statistical system.
World Bank Data Catalog
World Bank's Open Data initiative provides access to World Bank data catalog listing of available resources. Each of the listings includes a description of the data source and a direct link to that source. Where possible, the databases are linked directly to a selection screen to allow users to select the countries, indicators, and years they would like to search. Topics include health, education, gender, science and technology, agriculture, energy, and aid effectiveness as well as economy and finance. WDI World development indicators

OECD Factbook 2011-2012: Economic, Environmental and Social Statistics
The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development's dynamic and comprehensive statistical annual showing a wide range of key statistics for its member countries and major additional countries. For each indicator presented, there is explanatory text including a definition, explanation of long-term trends, and references; a table showing the indicator over a significant time span for all countries covered, and graphics showing the key messages contained in the data. Under each table is a link to an Excel spreadsheet enabling the user to access the data. This publication is available in print form, as an iPhone app, and in html form.
Statistics from A to Z (OECD)
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) provides extensive list of indicators arranged by topic. Most can be downloaded as Excel files or are available as real-time data which can be downloaded as comma separated values files.
FAOSTAT Food and Agriculture Organization (UN)
An online, multilingual database currently containing time-series records covering international statistics in: production, trade, food-balance sheets, food aid shipments, fertilizer and pesticides, land use and irrigation, forest and fishery products, agricultural machinery and population.
Integrated Public Use Microdata Series for Social and Economic Research (IPUMS-International)
IPUMS-International is an effort to inventory, preserve, harmonize, and disseminate census microdata from around the world. The project has collected the world's largest archive of publicly available census samples. The data are coded and documented consistently across countries and over time to facillitate comparative research. IPUMS-International makes these data available to qualified researchers free of charge through a web dissemination system. Users must register, but data is free after registration.

The Statistical Abstract of the United States is a summary of statistics on the social, political, and economic organization of the United States, with some international content. It is also used as a guide to other statistical publications and sources. Each table will identify the original agency that produced the data. Use the agency web link to find additional information on your topic. First published 1878.

Roper Center Public Opinion Archives (with iPOLL)
The Roper Center for Public Opinion Research is one of the world's leading archives of social science data, specializing in data from surveys of public opinion. The data held by the Roper Center range from the 1930s, when survey research was in its infancy, to the present. Most of the data are from the United States, but over 50 nations are represented. The assorted services from Roper include iPOLL, RoperExpress and RoperExplorer .

General Social Science Survey
The GSS contains a standard core of demographic and attitudinal questions, plus topics of special interest. Many of the core questions have remain unchanged since 1972 to facilitate time trend studies as well as replication of earlier findings. The GSS takes the pulse of America, and is a unique and valuable resource. It is the only survey that has tracked the opinions of Americans over an extended period of time.

The Pew Research Center is a nonpartisan fact tank that provides information on the issues, attitudes and trends shaping America and the world.
