Art Images. In Advanced Search mode, select Art Reproduction from the Document Type menu; or, from the Physical Description menu, select illustration, color illustration, portrait, or other category; or, select Image Quick View found below Document Type options.

Many indexes and databases will indicate whether or not the images are searchable by document type or physical description. Some indexes and databases will lead you to citations for articles with images; while others will take you directly to the image itself.

Source for peer-reviewed, full-text articles from the world's leading journals and reference sources. With extensive coverage of the arts, theology, literature and other subjects.
Readers' Guide Retrospective Index This link opens in a new window
Multiple subject areas. In Advanced Search mode, select Art Reproduction from the Document Type menu; or, from the Physical Description menu, select illustration, color illustration, portrait, or other category; or, select Image Quick View found below Document Type options.

Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals
Architecture images. In the advanced search mode, search for axonometric views, drawings, elevations, sections, aerial photos, plans, site plans, etc. using the Physical Description search option.
American National Biography Online
Searches can be limited to articles with illustrations. There are nearly 3,000 images of notable Americans.
American Periodical Series (1740-1900)
Searches can be limited by "Document Type"; i.e., illustration, comic, editorial cartoon, photograph or ad. Use the "More Search Options" link.
HarpWeek
Searches in Harper's Weekly, America's leading 19th century illustrated newspaper, can be limited by advertisement, cartoon, illustration, map, portrait or panoramic view.
ProQuest Newspapers
Boston Globe, Christian Science Monitor, Hartford Courant, LA Times, NY Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post. In advanced search, use "More Search Options"and limit search by "Document Type" -- editorial cartoon.
