Research in History

History is a way of understanding the whole of the human condition as it has unfolded in time.

Historians produce and read:

  • Secondary literature/Peer reviewed journal articles - typically provide either a detailed critique of a narrow, focused topic or question; or a short summary of a broader idea
  • Books - offer extended original presentations of, or critical analyses on a topic
  • Primary Sources - direct, uninterpreted records of the subject of your research project
  • Websites -  can enhance your knowledge providing you look at them through a critical eye understanding the reason for their existence.
