Several available tools purport to detect whether text has been generated by ChatGPT and other GenAI tools. However, they can generate many false negatives and positives and are therefore not particularly reliable, in addition to various other concerns. For example, they have a tendency to flag writing by non-native English speakers/writers as being artificially generated. Further, it is good to be cautious about uploading someone else's work into one of these detectors, as they then have a copy of that person's work in their database; so, do not upload someone else's work into a GenAI detector without their agreement. In addition to those issues, there are a growing number of subscription-based AI generators and other applications designed to bypass AI detection.
So, rather than rely on an AI detection tool, the best way to avoid others' misuse of AI in a group project or setting (such as in a college course) is likely to have a clear AI policy and discuss it with all involved at the beginning of the project.
