Student Borrowing Periods

There is no limit on how many items you can check out at one time. You can also renew an item as many times as you need (unless another user requests the item). InterLibrary Loan is limited to 15 active requests at any given time.

Wesleyan/ CTW Books - 28 days
InterLibrary Loan (ILL) items - due dates vary and are set by the lending library
Government Documents - 28 days
CD-ROMs – 7 days
Music CDs - 7 days
Cassettes - 7 days
Music Scores - 28 days (M1-M4 restricted scores may not be checked out)
DVDs and Videos - 3 days
Bound Periodicals in Olin - 14 days
Items on Reserve - 2 to 24 hours (varies)

Undergraduate thesis writers receive longer loan periods on Wesleyan and CTW materials.

In October, Honors candidates that are on the list issued by the Honors College automatically receive extended borrowing privileges.  Any item checked out after the candidate list is issued will receive extended loan periods (items will be due in May).  If you checked out an item before we received the list of honors candidates, it will not automatically be extended to May -- you will need to renew the item to receive the extended loan period.

The extended loan privilege only applies to books (not periodicals) in general collections at Wesleyan, Trinity and Connecticut. The Honors College reissues its list of candidates in mid February. Students not included on this list will immediately lose the extended loan privilege although books they have already checked out will still be due in mid May.

Books borrowed on extended loans may be recalled by another library user and are due within 7 days. Borrowing privileges are suspended if a recalled item is not returned and recalled items are subject to fines.

InterLibrary Loan (ILL)

We borrow books, articles, documents, microforms, videos and sound recordings from many libraries around the world. Although most items can be obtained within two weeks, it is impossible to know exactly how long it might take to receive an item you request through InterLibrary Loan, so plan ahead.

ILL articles will be delivered to you electronically.  You will be notified by email when an article is available for you to download from your ILL account.

Once available, physical ILL materials will be available for contactless pick-up from shelves directly across from the Reserves Desk.

Consortium Borrowing Privileges

Due to COVID-19, we expect to encounter some challenges securing certain materials based on the level of services offered by lending libraries.

The CTW consortium consists of Connecticut College, Trinity College, and Wesleyan University, and allows members to borrow books, videos, and other materials from all three collections.

CTW members can visit the Wesleyan University, Connecticut College, or Trinity College Libraries in person to check out materials with a valid institution ID, or request items through the online catalog. When you request an available item from a CTW library, you will typically receive it within 48 hours.

To request items from CTW, search for the item in OneSearch, click the item title, then select the Request button

Due to COVID-19, we expect to encounter some challenges securing certain materials based on the level of services offered by lending libraries.

The Boston Library Consortium (BLC) permits Wesleyan faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students to use BLC member libraries and borrow materials in person at those libraries.

To obtain access to the BLC libraries, you must request a consortium card from EunJoo Lee, Head of Access Services at Olin Library (elee01@wesleyan.edu). Please see BLC's Consortium Card for more details about using BLC libraries.
